Social impact bond design

Our task: We were hired by Norfolk County Council (NCC) to design a social outcomes contract that would draw in funding from the Life Chances Fund (LCF) and deliver improved outcomes for the local community.
Our work: We worked with NCC to identify service areas that would benefit from a new approach and settled upon unpaid carers given the significant local need and potential for a more transformative service.
The results: Our work resulted in the delivery of the first ever carers SIB, drew in investment and LCF funding and significantly improved outcomes for unpaid carers including a reduction in the number of caring relationships breaking down and a marked improvement in wellness scores for unpaid carers.
“The support that NCC received from the Change Coefficient was critical in shaping and completing our business case for the LCF. We received expert strategic, financial and practical advice across the breadth of the project, which combined with the mentoring of key NCC staff resulted in a transformative proposal and an upskilled and confident staff base. We would absolutely use the Change Coefficient again and would recommend them to others who need to deliver high level projects with multiple and complex elements.“
Raising social investment

Our task: The Regulation Station (TRS), which delivers alternative education provision and counselling to students at risk of exclusion from school, needed funding to support the organisation’s growth ambitions enabling the organisation to double their student numbers.
Our work: We were commissioned through the Reach Fund to prepare TRS for investment. This included tasks such as developing the financial model and pitch deck but more importantly supporting TRS to think through the growth plans, to ensure they were reasonable and maximised impact. To do this we mapped out TRS’ current and planned services to the understand staffing, classroom requirements and associated costs. This enabled us to test different scenarios based on varying class utilisation rates and payment delays ensuring the sustainability of TRS even on downside assumptions. We also developed a theory of change for TRS, conducted a board skills audit to support development of the board and created templates for reporting to support effective governance.
The results: TRS was able to secure all their funding needs with a £120,000 loan from Big Issue Invest.
“I found working with Tej and Roshni from The Change Coefficient, inspirational and affirming. These ladies know their stuff and they worked patiently with me to identify the strengths and accomplishments of the organisation, whilst also helping me to see how we can continue to grow and develop in other areas.
The experience has been a major learning process and more than anything the conversations we had helped me to embrace my achievements to date, see my role in the journey of the company more clearly and to feel empowered as a social entrepreneur. I can now proudly say “I am a CEO” and believe it. Thank you Tej and Roshni.”
Training and workshops

Our task: We were hired by the Surge Impact Foundation, an Indian based NGO, to support the delivery of their LGTBQ+ social enterprise incubator.
Our work: We delivered trauma-informed training and one on one coaching to the social entrepreneurs on business models, fundraising and achieving sustainability without compromising mission. The content was contextualised to the experiences and operating conditions of LGBTQ+ entrepreneurs in India.
The results: Post the sessions entrepreneurs effectively refined their business models and developed fundraising plans which delivered higher rates of success.
“The Change Coefficient delivered fantastic training for our social entrepreneurs, adopting both an insightful and sensitive approach to understanding their unique visions. Their support led to some significant funding wins for members of our cohort.”
Impact investment fund design

Our task: We are working with the Possible to help incubators in Ukraine design and set up impact investment funds to support the recovery.
Our work: We work with the incubators to understand the capital needs of their network, design products that provide sufficient flexibility to meet the highly challenging operating conditions yet create a track record to pool in further capital and help incubators develop the infrastructure needed to effectively manage capital.
The results: One fund has already been launched with further funds in the pipeline.
“It takes top-tier professionals to break through the cross-cultural barriers and lead the creation of impact funds in emerging markets.
